It all started for me about 25 years ago when I landed in the hospital with what might have been a bowel infection, but with 7 days in (I’ll spare you the details) I never did receive a diagnosis. The only medical advice was to go home and eat a plain, bland diet… rice and peas was their only suggestion.
After that, getting back to “normal” was exceptionally trying. I had lost a lot of weight very quickly, had no energy, I would break into sweats at any and all times of the day.
It was my last year of University, and all I could do was get myself to class and finish my assignments. I couldn’t work (for the first time in my life), and had to take out a student loan so I could get through it.
This was devastating to me - and I knew something had to change!
With limited information available at that time, I started exploring how my gut responded to new and different foods. I learned how to cook. I experimented with more vegetarian food choices. I eliminated a few things, like sugar, which, as I came to find out - was hidden in almost everything I ate!
For a while my gut was better than it had ever been in recent years, but fast forward to my 40’s… and a whole new crop of gut issues. Hello hormones!
But, just like the health challenges that I faced in my 20’s, my gut issues are now being resolved with the proper foods and lifestyle changes.
So, for the past couple of years, I’ve strategically used food, exercise, and targeted supplementation to make significant improvements to my health.
